What Causes Power Window Problems?
Power windows are used thousands of times throughout the life of your vehicle. Over time, normal wear, electrical issues, and Colorado’s changing climate can affect their performance.
Failed Window Motor
The power window motor supplies the force needed to raise and lower the glass. As the motor wears, it may become weak, operate intermittently, or stop working entirely.
Broken Window Regulator
The regulator is the mechanical assembly that moves the glass. Broken cables, worn gears, or damaged guides can prevent the window from operating correctly and may even cause the glass to fall inside the door.
Faulty Window Switch
Sometimes the problem is as simple as a failed switch. If the switch cannot send power to the motor, the window won’t move even though the motor and regulator are functioning properly.
Electrical Problems
Damaged wiring, corroded connectors, blown fuses, or faulty relays can interrupt power to the window system. Proper electrical testing is essential before replacing components.
Frozen or Damaged Window Tracks
Steamboat Springs winters can create ice buildup around window seals. Attempting to operate a frozen window can place additional strain on the motor and regulator, increasing the likelihood of failure.
